Nature lovers and original surroundings will also enjoy in Toledo and the surrounding area. In the city itself you can enjoy pleasant walks along the riverside by those known as “ecological trails”, or if you prefer you can move to towns near Toledo to enjoy some places such as we recommend below .
LAS BARRANCAS DE BURUJÓN
Just 25 kilometres away, on the CM-4000 road, we can visit one of the most spectacular and famous places in the whole province; The ravines of Burujón.
In the year 2010 the Junta de comunidades de Castilla la Mancha declared them as a Natural monument, and also enjoys the classification of protected area for birds and a place of community interest.
What makes this place so special is the continued action for millennia of erosion, which has formed a rugged environment along the Tagus river, which can reach 120 meters in some places, as in the famous Pico del Cambron. To a lesser extent, but remember quite what we can see in the well-known Grand Canyon of the Colorado.
EL CHORRO, LA CHORRERA Y EL ROCIGALGO
Those who like hiking, or the long walks through nature, will enjoy the route of the Chorro, the Chorrera, and the Rocigalgo. This route is located in the National Park of Cabanaos, next to the village of Los Navalucillos, which will take just an hour to get from Toledo.
Depending on the time, and the desire that we have, we will be able to choose between three different options:
Route to the stream
Route to the Chorrera girl
Route to the Rocigalgo
If the option chosen is the first one, the journey of Ida is about four kilometers, which will take us about two hours, with little more than 200 meters of height. The complication is not much, as we will check when crossing with hikers of all kinds, including families with small children, a route that is perfectly signposted, and a few narrower areas. At the end of the journey we will find the jet, which is a small and beautiful waterfall.
If we go well for time and encouragement, we can continue to the Chorrera girl, walking around a kilometer and a half more, where we will spend about three quarters of an hour ascending a hundred meters more. The road is not too complicated, except in times of rain, as the terrain becomes slippery. The curious thing about this section is to be able to find cornices that are used by the shepherds to protect themselves with the cattle, while we delight with magnificent views of the valley.
And if we are more daring and we are accompanied by the forces, we can reach the Rocigalgo traveling four and a half kilometres more. In doing this tour from the Emplearíamos exit a time of approximately four hours, dodging a height of 700 meters. The reward when you reach the highest peak of the Montes de Toledo is to enjoy a panoramic view of the entire national park of Cabanars.
It is very important to wear suitable clothes and footwear, and not forgetting to bring some victuals to be able to get strength.
